Lady Justice Elisabeth Laing was called to the Bar in 1980. She took silk in 2008. She became an Assistant Recorder in 1999, a Recorder in 2000, and a Deputy High Court Judge in 2010. She was made a High Court Judge in 2014 (assigned to the Queen’s Bench Division).

She was nominated to sit in the Employment Appeal Tribunal in 2015. Between 2017 and 2020 she was the Chair of the Special Immigration Appeals Commission. On 28 October 2020 she was appointed a Lady Justice of Appeal.

She was Chair of the Judicial/ADR Liaison Committee from October 2019 to February 2021.

Since 2019 she has been responsible for issues and co-ordination in relation to litigants in person on behalf of the Judiciary.
